Les Spero, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer
With a Doctorate from Harvard Business School, Dr. Les Spero is no stranger to the sound philosophies and successful methodologies of good business management. Although his tenure as Assistant Professor at Wharton Business School satisfied his thirst for academics, Les’s real passion is creating business solutions and bringing them to market.
In 1981, Les co-founded Strategic Management Group (SMG), a software-based organizational learning company. Between 1981-2000, SMG’s sales and equity had a yearly compound growth rate of 30%. He spearheaded software design, sales, marketing and financial planning for the company.
One area of particular interest to Les was scenario-based computer simulations. He adopted this technology to create business simulations for the executive education and corporate education markets. His company became the leader in the field. (Today, the platform Les Spero and his team developed is commonly used by many other companies.) With SMG as the pioneer, Les knew that once Wall Street woke up to the viability of this new technology, investors would follow. In 2000, he raised $50 million in venture funding for SMG. As control of the company shifted, he began refocusing on new opportunities and blending technology with business needs.
After stepping down as Chairman and CEO of SMG, Les spent much of his time counseling other companies on how to maintain stamina and accelerate growth. He co-founded several successful startups including Reality, Inc., Vintek, Inc. and Intermedia, Inc. He is currently a board member at Vintek, Inc. and the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board.
Dr. Spero served as Deputy Director of the Office of Corporate Finance and Special Projects for the U.S. Treasury Department. In addition to a Ph.D. from Harvard Business School, he earned an MBA from Washington University, and B.A. from Yeshiva University.
Rafi Spero, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer
Rafi Spero co-founded NeatReceipts in 2003 with a goal of creating a technology solution for an everyday problem: his expense reports. And as the idea grew, one paper led to another. Which led to a whole pile of papers.... and NeatReceipts became an entirely new proposition: a tool for an organized, paper-free life.
Rafi leads the team at NeatReceipts to innovate and build technology solutions that work for people in their daily lives -- at home, at work and on the road. Real businesses, real people.
Rafi's leadership has driven the company to grow quickly and operate efficiently. He raised over $7M in financing for the company, and serves on its Board of Directors.
Background Information:
Rafi opened the first NeatReceipts kiosk in the Philadelphia International Airport. The effort not only yielded sales for the burgeoning company but provided Rafi and his colleagues with invaluable customer feedback. The kiosk provided them with a captive audience very willing to critique the application and provide suggestions on usability. As sales and marketing chief for the NeatReceipts product line, this information was of great value to Rafi in further enhancing the products.
Before starting NeatReceipts, Rafi was a manager at Bearing Point, formerly KPMG consulting, where he gained experience integrating and designing enterprise resource planning systems for Fortune 1000 companies. Specifically, he managed large proprietary system projects for clients such as SAP, Oracle, and others.
Rafi began his career as product designer and project manager of business simulations software at Strategic Management Group in the e-learning group. He spent 1½ years based in the company's London office, gathering feedback about the products and working directly with the modelers to build better solutions.
Brian M. Doran, Chief Financial Officer
Brian M. Doran is responsible for NeatReceipts' accounting & controls, financial planning & analysis, as well as generating financial forecasts. As a global consultant, he enabled executives and managers to better understand working capital management, financial analysis and how to drive strategy through organizations.
Brian holds business degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

The SPI team has developed many patent-pending processes in this regard, including one for document classification and another for itemizing complex bills. Harris also leads the development of NeatReceipts’ next generation of hardware products, a complex task combining elements of industrial design and engineering with business-focused project management.
